My story started mid December 2023 when I had a Colonoscopy. Two weeks later between Christmas and New Years I became sick , though I could have been sick before just did not know it. It seemed like the flu, low temp and a sore throat so bad I could not speak. On New Years even I made a call to the on call doctor who happened to be my GP. They prescribed an antibiotic for 10 days so we could rule out that part of equation. At that point, I was still sick and getting worse. I’d guess I’m day 15 . A week later, on day 22, I went into the doctors office. But the doctor just thought it was the flu and told me to wait it out.

Meanwhile, I had been in bed with a temperature that went from 97 to 102. A week later, back to see GP who remarks  “Geez this has been a month lets do tests.” After results, I got a frantic call from my GP who wants to start me on Vancomycin right away.

By mid Feb things turned around but here is what I learned you GP probably doesn’t know much more than you do if you search the web, which you already have as you’ve found this site. Besides the antibiotic, what really helped is being my own advocate. What I think helped was taking probiotics. There are 4 strains that I found helped – Flora-store is my go to. It has the 4 strains and does not need to be refrigerated, its pricey but so is a long term illness. Also a prebiotic, who knew? I eat probiotic food like kefir or probiotic apricots yogurt. I am today 40 days clean though I still don’t feel like I am out of the woods as C. diff seems to have a history of making comebacks. I hope you find this helpful in some way.

In December of 2019, my husband got sick with C. diff. It was after he was prescribed antibiotics for what they thought was a case of diverticulitis. In hindsight, it’s clear he may have simply had C. diff all along. He was treated with vancomycin…
