Dec 6, 2023, I was prescribed amoxicillin/clav for a regular cold by an mdlive doctor. I remember feeling great after 1 week taking the antibiotic but something changed one night where I started feeling really sick and I remember telling my spouse it was the chicken. I thought it was raw but no one else at home got sick. So I ended up going to the doctor and remember him telling me I don’t think is C. diff, I think you are just having an episode of IBS. I was diagnosed with IBS at the age of 39.
Never in my life had I heard of C. diff, so when he said C. diff I didn’t react because I’d never heard of it. Lost story short he said, you’ll be fine go home and in a couple days you will feel better. Well days passed by and it was getting worse. I remember waking up Christmas Eve and I poop some blood. So I called my doctor and he said with frustration let nature run its course. It’s been already 12 days I been having 10-15 bowel movements a day and it was straight liquid in all sorts of colors. Anything I put in my body I couldn’t hold. I remember being 192 pounds beginning of the December by the 31st I had dropped to 168 pounds. Weight was just coming off.
I got depressed, I didn’t know what was wrong. Anyhow I ended up getting a stool test done and I came back positive for C. diff. I called my doctor right away and all I remember him saying is, you have to take this very serious. He put me on vancomycin for 2 weeks. Things have not been the same since, I was diagnosed with dysbiosis from this infection. I’m constantly living in fear checking my stool. It really messed me up mentally. I suffer from trauma and anxiety now. No one understands me. It’s been a hard 2 years. I tell anyone who’s taking antibiotics to make sure to double up on probiotics. Very important and for anyone out there you are not alone.
