My battle with C. diff started when I cut my ankle and was prescribed multiple antibiotics to prevent infection. About a week after finishing my last antibiotic, I began experiencing symptoms of C. diff. I visited a gastroenterologist, and while waiting for test results, she advised me to take Immodium, which I later discovered was the most detrimental course of action. My tests confirmed the positive diagnosis of C. diff. She offered me the option of taking vancomycin or Dificid, and I opted for vancomycin due to its lower cost, as Dificid was priced at over $1600. After completing the initial round of Vancomycin, I felt remarkably well and symptom-free but that lasted only five days before my C. diff symptoms resurfaced.

After my Initial diagnosis, I did extensive research on C. diff, and unfortunately, my findings were disheartening and filled me with fear. When my symptoms returned, I was consumed by despair, convinced that I would be battling this disease for the rest of my life. However as a result of the research I had done, I realized I needed to seek guidance from an infectious disease specialist, as most doctors lack expertise in treating C. diff. I was incredibly fortunate to find a doctor who possessed the knowledge and skills to help me. Determined to combat the infection, I decided to pay for Dificid and continued taking it for 10 days, followed by another 14 days.

During this period, I also discovered Embrace Health Products, which specializes in specific probiotic protocols. I incorporated these protocols into my treatment plan. It’s uncertain whether it was Dificid, the multiple probiotics, or a combination of both but I have now been symptom-free for 9 weeks. When my journey began, I was completely unaware of C. diff. Now, I have an understanding of the disease, became my own advocate and through my own research, learned effective strategies to combat it. While my story may not be as extraordinary as others I’ve read about, I firmly believe that my proactive approach and self-advocacy played a pivotal role in achieving what has so far been a favorable outcome.
