Two years ago I realized I was having another flare up with my Diverticulosis. I had been hospitalized for it in 2014 and had been successfully treated with no issues since. The pain was so bad that I drove myself to the local hospital in town and was admitted after the scan showed that I was having a flare. I was treated for 2 days and released with prescriptions for Flagyl . I followed up with the GI people in Tallahassee. They recommended a colonoscopy. Which they could not complete because I was in pain. The GI Doctor told me that I needed surgery and recommended a surgeon. The Surgeon told me that treatment should be conservative and that he wanted to try a round of “good old penicillin” and that seemed to do the trick.
About 6 weeks later I mistakenly thought I was having another diver flare and called for an appointment with the surgeon. He suspected C. diff and had me do the stool samples. Sure enough it was positive for it and I was given a prescription for vancomycin. Since then, I’ve had it 5 times. During a clear period I had another colonoscopy in which they didn’t find cancer but my diver is pretty severe and I was told I had a lot of gallstones. That was in early October 2021. Here I am again with C. diff and am taking the Dificid medication along with Florastar. I’m going to have to let my job go as physically and mentally, I’m unable to work. Luckily, we have insurance and my husband has a good income. But now I’m truly scared to death, I can’t continue to go on like this indefinitely. We have insurance but the thought of my family having to suffer any financial burdens because of me is unthinkable. I’m at my wits end, but I’m so thankful to find this group and reading the stories helps me to know I’m not losing my mind after all.
