In August, Peggy Lillis Foundation added three new experts to its Scientific Advisory Council (SAC). The SAC is an esteemed body of doctors, researchers, and other health professionals and C. diff experts. These experts provide insight into the current field of C. diff research and innovation and review PLF’s educational materials and the informational content on our website.
Recently, we have made a concerted effort to introduce newer and more diverse academics and clinicians into the ranks. This month, we’ve had the honor of welcoming Barley Chironda of The Clorox Company, Bobby Warren of Duke University, and Krishna Rao, MD, of the University of Michigan to the Scientific Advisory Council.

Barley Chironda is a National Infection Preventionist and Clinical Solutions Director at The Clorox Company, and offers a vital perspective on healthcare infection prevention through the private sector. He consults on infection control protocols and delivers presentations at conferences for associations such as the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America. Barley is personally invested in volunteering his time and experience for C. diff patients, and we are pleased to provide him with the space to do so.

Bobby Warren is a researcher in antimicrobial stewardship and epidemiology at Duke University. At present, he is a Lab Director at the Duke Center for Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection Prevention’s Disinfection, Resistance and Transmission Epidemiology (DiRTE) Lab. We first came into contact with Bobby in 2024 when he presented on racial disparities in C. diff at our annual Summit. He has continued to be a steadfast partner in advancing the field of C. diff research and illuminating trends in healthcare-associated C. diff infections.

Dr. Krishna Rao is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. He has long fostered an interest in the gut microbiome, leading research efforts into C. diff infections and other facets of infectious disease in the gastrointestinal space. Dr. Rao investigates many of the factors that may contribute to or predict C. diff colonization, infection, and recurrence. His current focus is the utilization of machine learning and data mining to facilitate more effective clinical decision-making for the prevention and treatment of infections like C. diff.
PLF is proud to be building on the existing structure of our Scientific Advisory Council and infusing it with new academic, clinical, and corporate expertise. We extend our thanks to Barley, Bobby, and Dr. Rao for joining us in the fight against C. diff.
