I was prescribed a round of Augmentin for a sinus infection just a few months after I had been on a round of Augmentin for kidney infection. After I had finished the 2nd round, I still had a fever and didn’t feel right. The doctor put me on yet another round of Augmentin. Little did I know at the time how bad it was to take antibiotics, especially the same ones back to back.

After I finished the antibiotics, the diarrhea started and after about a month I was at the toilet about 10- 14 times a day and constantly running a fever. They tested my stool and found the C. diff infection. I was immediately put on another round of antibiotics, specifically for C. diff, which brought some relief for the time I was on it. But as soon as I completed the antibiotics, the fever and diarrhea came back. I did find that eating Yogurt helped a little bit.

By this time, my mom had to come into town to help me take care of my 3 boys. I was recently separated. I started to research on the internet and found that probiotics had been successful in replacing the good flora necessary to fight off the overgrowth of bad bacteria. I started taking a ton of probiotics but it still wouldn’t go away. They put me on more rounds of antibiotics and I started taking loads of probiotics in between antibiotics doses. But it wasn’t until I found a tiny article on S. boulardii which is actually a yeast.

Well, I was desperate and bought it and started that with my probiotics. After 2 rounds of that with antibiotics, the infection didn’t come back! S. boulardii doesn’t get killed by gut acids so it gets to the problem area effectively. I really hope this helps someone, it saved me. It has also changed my perspective on antibiotics and the HUGE importance of having good flora in our bodies. I strongly feel like more should be said about S. boulardii when dealing with C. diff. I am so glad I saw that small article.
